SKEET AND TRAP

Trap, the oldest shotgun shooting sport in America, is available at Blackwood Sporting Co. Trapshooting derives its name from the device, called a trap which throws clay targets in the air at varied angles going away from the shooter. The trap can be set to oscillate up and down and right and left creating a wide variety in random sequence. The “game of trap” is shot in squads of 5 shooters and consists of 25 targets. The trap field has 5 positions numbered 1-5 left to right. Shooters are thrown 5 targets or “birds” from each position. After 5 targets shooters rotate right and the far right comes around to position 1 on the far left. Trap can be set up for less shooters and can be set not to oscillate to give beginning shooters a great way to start out shooting.

Blackwood Sporting Co. also has Skeet which uses the same clay targets & throwers as trap. There are two trap houses, a “high house” on the left and a “low house” on the right. Both traps throw targets at a fixed angle. Skeet is usually shot in squads of 5. A skeet field has eight shooting positions or stations which are usually numbered 1-8 from left to right with # 8 in the center. A round of skeet consists of 25 targets. Some stations are singles and some are doubles. Ask for a score-sheet and game rules if you want to shoot the game of skeet, or just enjoy shooting singles or doubles from some of the stations for a good practice round.

Great place to shoot. Reasonably priced, friendly service and the Range Safety Officer (RSO) was fantastic. Not only did he do a great job of ensuring we all shot safely but he offered VERY helpful tips and added a very much appreciated bit of "expert advice" to my sighting in process.
